VA Northern California Health Care System is looking for a dynamic and committed physician to join our great team as an Addiction Medicine (ADM) Specialist!
Addiction Medicine patients are often dealing with physical, mental, or emotional pain, and require care from specialty-trained professionals, in a highly specialized, and quality-focused environment. We are looking for an ABPM Addiction Medicine Board Certified physician to lead the new Addiction Medicine Division in the Medicine Service as part of the Pain Management, Opioid Safety, and PDMP (PMOP). The incumbent will be working to connect interprofessional teams in Mental Health, Pain Medicine and Primary Care. The duty station will be at the Sacramento VA Medical Center in Mather, CA. This is not a virtual or telework eligible position.
The ADM Specialist is responsible for leadership, quality assurance, oversight and overall medical management of the clinic and inpatient consults within the boundaries of state and federal regulations and accreditation standards. Responsibilities include assisting in the transition of patients with pain requiring opioids and/or opioid use disorder on pharmacotherapy between Mental Health, Pain Management, and Primary Care. Responsibilities will include participation in facility and VA network work groups and committees, coordinating and providing direct patient care in outpatient, transitional, and inpatient settings, and teaching interprofessional students, residents, and addiction medicine fellows.
Additionally, the incumbent:
- Oversees and is responsible for the quality, efficiency and management of delivering medical services in the addiction medicine division.
- Defines protocols and assists in decision making pertaining to the medical care of patients that is consistent with current medical practice and Veteran Health Administration policies and procedures.
- Provides oversight to other professional medical staff, as well as administrative or support staff, as designated.
- Serves as a liaison between the medical staff, other clinic staff, division, department, and organizational leadership.
- Serves in a teaching capacity for the training and development of other personnel.
- Responsible for securing physical exam and history from the patient, reviewing medical records, making medical evaluations, request appropriate diagnostic testing, prescribes medications and treatments, maintains current medical records in accordance with federal or state regulation, and clinic or corporate policies and procedures; and,
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Tour of duty: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm; occasional on-call coverage for holidays, evenings, or weekends
Candidates must: 1) be a US citizen or PRA (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with [38 U.S.C. § 7407(a)]; 2) possess a current, full, unrestricted medical license in any state, 3) be board prepared/certified in Addiction Medicine, and 4) verify COVID and Flu vaccination. Preferred experience: Board certified Addiction Medicine with at least 3 years’ experience and with academic experience.
Potential Incentives: Recruitment/Relocation Incentive and Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) offering $200,000 over five-years TAX FREE may be authorized for highly qualified candidates pending available funding.
