Carle Health is seeking a Staff Scientist to join our Carle Illinois Advanced Imaging Center (CIAIC) in Urbana, IL.
The Staff Scientist will be responsible for providing members of the Shi research group and collaborating investigators with specialized support and guidance in all aspects of research including study design, protocol development, study implementation, scientific computing, data analysis, and interpretation, scientific presentations, manuscripts preparation, and contributing to grant proposals. The Staff Scientist will serve as a co-investigator or other significant contributor on research projects and is expected to author or co-author publications for peer-reviewed journals.
Essential Standard Job Functions:
Provide expertise in planning, design, execution, and analysis of research projects
Develop research protocols and analytical tools according to established scientific and ethical standards.
Present research findings at conferences and seminars.
Lead and/or participate in scientific writing including conference proceedings, manuscripts, and grant proposals.
Assist in the mentorship and training of junior laboratory members.
Assist in managing projects to completion, including timeline, budget, and aims.
Develop research collaborations and manage research projects in consultation with the PI.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
Experience presenting scientific findings in poster and/or oral formats and publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts
Minimum of 1 year experience working in a clinical or translational research environment, including developing research protocols, ensuring compliance with IRB and other compliance requirements, and conducting research involving patients
Proficiency in programming (MATLAB/Python) and MRI analysis software (such as FSL, FreeSurfer, AFNI, SPM, or DSI Studio) preferred
Experience in training and mentoring graduate students and/or undergrads on research project development and execution preferred
Education and Experience Requirements: Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computational Neuroscience, or a related field
Master’s Degree Applicants: Minimum five years of post-graduate research experience in an advanced research environment involving biomedical imaging
PhD Applicants: Minimum two years of post-doctoral research experience in an advanced research environment involving biomedical imaging
