Overview
St. Luke's Health System in Boise is seeking an Infection Preventionist to join our team at the Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.
Job Description Overview
In our efforts to improve health in the communities we serve, St. Luke's is excited to offer innovative orthopedic patient care at our state-of-the-art Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine facility (COSM). COSM will bring together numerous complementary healthcare services, such as orthopedic walk-in care, a surgery center, physical therapy, pharmacy services, and many more. Patients will experience accessible and affordable orthopedic care unlike any other in the Treasure Valley. Our 230,000-square-foot facility will open to patients in February 2024.
Responsibilities
- Applies basic knowledge of the risk assessment concept and its importance to the infection prevention program. Participates in projects and understands risk reduction strategies of the infection prevention program.
- Provides education and consultation to patients and healthcare staff regarding the prevention and spread of infection; instructs staff in universal and specific infection prevention procedures. Assists in designing and presenting educational programs to enhance infection prevention.
- Applies standard methods and surveillance criteria for identifying healthcare associated infections; ensures that patient care or other activities comply with OSHA, Public Health, CDC, and/or applicable industry standards and regulations. Uses facility-based surveillance technology to monitor microbiology reports and patients with symptoms of suggestive infection.
- Reviews sterilization and disinfection techniques and recommends changes as necessary.
- Uses data and basic statistical techniques to identify the need for change and implement basic intervention/improvement projects.
- Interprets diagnostic and laboratory reports, and differentiates between colonization, infection, and contamination.
- Assists with outbreak investigations and investigates epidemiologically significant findings and consults with providers and stakeholders.
- Familiar with publications within the field of infection prevention. Actively reading infection prevention research studies and can understand broad themes and summary-level findings.
- Possesses novice working level knowledge of subject matter.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
