Job Summary:
Vanderbilt Health - Executive Search Team is conducting a national search for a Senior Vice President, Finance reporting to the Chief Financial Officer.
The Senior Vice President provides executive-level leadership and financial management enabling the organization to achieve operational, financial, and strategic goals and initiatives. The SVP oversees all "back office" finance functions including the Controller's Office, grant and contract accounting, internal control monitoring, financial planning, budgeting and analysis, treasury, cost accounting, financial systems, and financial analytic support. In addition, the SVP manages the Vanderbilt Health Services (VHS) division.

The SVP will be responsible for the financial operational management of VUMC and all aspects of its daily fiscal management, working in conjunction with the CFO and their direct reports to provide forward-looking, accurate, and efficient financial leadership to the organization. A highly visible position within the organization, the SVP serves as an advisor to the CFO, and divisional leadership including Presidents and Executive Vice Presidents, and other senior leaders. In addition, the SVP will closely coordinate with other key Finance leaders including the Chief Revenue Officer, Chief Supply Chain Officers, and Division Financial Vice Presidents providing coordination between VUMC's core financial operations and the divisions.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS / TRAITS
- A minimum of ten years in health care financial management, including academic medical center or complex health system management and leadership experience required. Preferable experience includes working in a public accounting firm focused on the health care vertical along with/or in addition to current/prior experience as a CFO, Finance Vice President, or Controller within a large complex academic medical center or health system setting.
- Career track of progressive, documented accomplishments in increasingly complex financial management roles in a large, complex organization or multi-facility enterprise. Ideal professional record demonstrates the capacity to establish leadership of a service-oriented function within a multi-faceted academic healthcare enterprise.
- Skill to proactively advise and educate management on all aspects which financially impact short-range operating and longer-term financial results. Demonstrated record of serving as an advisor and consultant to leadership on financial policies, operations, and strategy. Leadership acumen to act as a key member of the VUMC CFOs' leadership team and represent the CFO when requested including at the Board level. The position will communicate and coordinate with key individuals across VUMC Operations and VUMC Finance and as such must be skilled in working in a team-oriented environment.
- Management expertise to direct, plan and organize the financial operations of VUMC including both short- and long-range financial planning, budgeting, analysis, and financial systems. Ability to communicate financial information and collaborate with management and outside stakeholders, including financial advisors, investment and commercial bankers, and ratings agencies.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in the development, interpretation, coordination and communication of finance policies regarding GAAP, cost and grant accounting, budgeting, financial system structure, internal controls, and compliance.
- Leadership skills to facilitate organization-wide planning, business prioritization, and resource allocation in conjunction with the VUMC CFO. Ability to ensure the organization complies with audit calendars, planning deadlines, and reporting requirements.
- A system and technology-driven leader seeking to capitalize on improvements in data management and analytics through the implementation and refinement of financial systems to improve process, efficiency, and effectiveness.
- A change leader, able to act and provide leadership throughout the change process, who engages employees in the entire process and develops commitment for sustaining change. Able to turn vision into a workable plan and facilitate others' involvement toward a common goal and mapping a clear direction appreciating the need for effective project management and communication.
- Documented executive-level experience with general accounting principles and practices, and public sector or not-for-profit health care accounting. Possesses excellent written, oral and electronic communications skills along with strong leadership and strategic planning skills.
- An analytic with the capacity to impose the discipline necessary to meet challenging financial goals. Proven financial analysis skills and extensive experience with a broad array of presentation strategies.
- Proven record for developing organizational talent, with ability to recruit, retain and develop high-performing individuals aligned with the institution's goals and values. Provides continuous feedback, encouragement, and coaching to employees. Ensures all direct reports have development plans that increase their effectiveness and/or prepare them for future opportunities and expanded roles. Facilitates meaningful recognition for team and individual accomplishments.
- Management acumen to direct a team of highly skilled professionals at the Vice President and Associate Vice President level, providing the right mix of oversight and direction to ensure a highly functioning team environment.
- Skill to prepare reports for management and the Board outlining the organization's financial position based on past, present, and future operations, including variance analysis of actual to budget performance.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data and develop clear and informative methods to present financial information, special projects, and focused studies to executive leadership.
- Proven expertise in reviewing the preparation of government required reports, third party review, and other financial information required by external entities. Skill to evaluate continuously, in coordination with other Finance leadership, economic, demographic, and government changes and interpret their effective upon financial performance.
- A person of the highest integrity. Must be able to develop trust and credibility and to build strong collaborative relationships throughout VUMC.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or a related field and 10 years of relevant experience.
- Master's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or Health Administration preferred.
- CPA, CFA or CMA license or the equivalent preferred.
