Bassett Healthcare Network seeks a dynamic, distinguished research scientist to serve as its next Director of the Bassett Research Institute (BRI).
The BRI is housed primarily at the Bassett Medical Center, the main campus of Bassett Healthcare Network (BHN), located in Cooperstown, NY. Research Scientists are involved in a range of projects to address the health problems of the largely rural population of central New York. The BRI also supports Bassett clinicians, residents, and medical students in academic, intellectual, and clinical research endeavors. The BRI provides a strong research infrastructure for its research scientists in the areas of biostatistics, study design, data management, research computing, project management, IRB review, OSP administration, and patient recruitment for clinical trials through the Center for Clinical Research. BRI has four centers: Rural Community Health, Clinical Research, Evaluating Rural Interventions, and Biostatistics. The BRI is embarking on an innovative mental health research path, called Center for Stress Health, with the goal of improving access, quality, equity, and value of mental health services in rural areas that Bassett Healthcare Network serves.
Bassett's organizational culture is highly collaborative, emphasizing multidisciplinary approaches to improving health. Opportunities are available for collaborations with researchers within the BRI, at Columbia University through the Columbia-Bassett affiliation and the Columbia-Bassett Medical School. The BRI has a strong collaborative relationship with public health practitioners within local health departments, New York State Department of Health, the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health as well as regional academic institutions including the University at Albany School of Public Health, Cornell University, and the University of Rochester. BHN is especially interested in candidates who will collaborate with other researchers, community-based organizations, government agencies, and the Bassett Healthcare Network to develop, implement, and test interventions that improve the health of communities most affected by rural health disparities.
The successful candidate should possess a medical degree (MD) or PhD, with a minimum of 10 years of independent research experience with both historical and current federal or private funding of research projects as a Principal Investigator in clinical, mental health, and/or public health research. Individuals with experience in addressing rural health disparities, rural health care services, and the social determinants of health are particularly encouraged to apply. The candidate should have demonstrated ability to build effective collaborations and collaborate productively with local agencies, state or regional entities, and academic partners. This leader should have a track record and interest in effectively mentoring younger colleagues and strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. The selected candidate is expected to have experience in conducting research in partnership with underserved populations i.e.rural and/or economically disadvantaged communities.
The pay range for this position is $200,000 – $400,000. The referenced pay range represents Bassett Healthcare Network's good faith and reasonable estimate of the base range of compensation for this position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job's salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience, and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries.
