Position Summary

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) at Phoenix Children’s Hospital (PCH) is seeking a pediatric hematologist/oncologist to serve as Section Chief for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Program.
We are looking for an experienced, transformational physician or physician-scientist to lead and further expand one of the largest pediatric leukemia and lymphoma programs in the Southwest. Expert care by the section is also provided for patients with histiocytic disorders and bone marrow failure syndromes. A close working relationship and physician liaison exists with our BMT and Cell Therapy program to provide services for patients requiring life-saving hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cellular therapies, such as CAR-T cell treatment. The incoming section chief will leverage extraordinary clinical and research opportunities in collaboration with our two academic and clinical partners, the University of Arizona College of Medicine and Mayo Clinic Arizona.
Opportunity:
The pediatric leukemia/lymphoma program at PCH is one of the largest pediatric programs of its kind in the Southwestern US. The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders sees on average over 370 new oncology patients per year, of which more than 140 are patients with leukemias or lymphomas, which resulted in more than 9000 leukemia/lymphoma patient visits in 2021. The leukemia/lymphoma team is supported by one of the largest FACT-accredited BMT and cell therapy programs in the region, offering autologous, related, and unrelated allogeneic donor transplants. The BMT/Cell therapy program administers more than minimally manipulated cell therapies, including haploidentical stem cell transplants and CAR-T cell treatments.
CCBD is an active member of COG, POETIC, TACL, Histiocyte Society and NACHO, offering consortia trials, phase I and II industry-sponsored studies and investigator-initiated trials.
This position is an opportunity to lead and further advance one of the largest pediatric leukemia and lymphoma programs in the Southwestern US. The Phoenix Metropolitan area remains one of the fastest expanding regions in the United States with a steady population growth.
Position Summary:
The successful candidate will have several years of focused experience in the clinical care for pediatric leukemia/lymphoma patients, be nationally recognized as a leader in this field, and ideally have an active bench-to-bedside research program with a track record of obtaining external funding.
Through the academic partnership with the University of Arizona-College of Medicine Phoenix, researchers have access to state-of-the art laboratory facilities and the wider Phoenix Biomedical Campus (including Arizona State University and TGen, a City of Hope Affiliate and Mayo Clinic Arizona).
The incoming section chief will be a member of the Department of Child Health at the University of Arizona-College of Medicine Phoenix as well as Mayo Clinic Arizona, at the academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
Responsibilities include oversight for the clinical, research, educational and quality programs of the section, shared inpatient responsibilities on the leukemia/lymphoma service, and development of a clinical-translational and/or laboratory research program in a field relevant to leukemia/lymphoma, histiocytic disorders or bone marrow failure. Teaching responsibilities may include medical students from the University of Arizona, Mayo Medical School, Creighton University School of Medicine, as well as Phoenix Children’s residents and fellows.
Qualified candidates should have a strong interest in mentoring and program development, be academically productive, and must be board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, subspecialty Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

The staff physician shall provide patient care services and will support the PCH mission of providing hope, healing and the best health care for children and their families.

Education

• MD or DO degree. (Required)

• Current Arizona License to Practice Medicine or the ability to obtain prior to start date. (Required)
