Vanderbilt University Medical Center seeks an experienced research assistant (RAIII) to work in a clinical-translational laboratory focused on the developmental origins of asthma and allergic diseases. Work entails the processing and analyses of human biospecimens. As a Research Assistant III, performs under minimal supervision a wide variety of complex tasks requiring a practical understanding of scientific techniques and advanced knowledge of scientific theory.
Dr. Hartert's Lab is seeking to identify causal risk factors for asthma, understand their mechanism of action, and develop and test primary and secondary prevention strategies for asthma and allergic diseases.
Assess and store information in secure databases.
Prefer experience in basic cell culture techniques.
Prepare media and reagents needed for cell culture
Processing biospecimens collected at study participant visits
Assist with quarterly shipments
Work closely with the clinical research team
Be open to flexible scheduling including some weekends
Complete phone surveys
Understand and follow experimental protocols
Record, compile, interpret, and communicate data/results
Follow University safety protocols
Prepare, operate, and troubleshoot equipment in experimental procedures
Read and follow all equipment manuals
Recommend equipment and supplies needed
Ensure Laboratory is prepared for experiments
Maintain sterile conditions as required
Demonstrate an understanding of acceptable procedures and techniques
Recognize problems and suggest solutions
Assist in modifications as directed
Assist in the effective operation of the laboratory
Train other employees
Provide appropriate written documentation of experiments
Summarize test results appropriately
