DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan is one of the nationâ��s largest hospitals specializing in rehabilitation medicine and research. RIM is known for its clinical expertise in spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, amputee, orthopedics and catastrophic injury care. The Institute houses the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery and the Southeastern Michigan Traumatic Brain Injury System (SEMTBIS), one of only 16 federally designated model systems of care for brain injury care and research. RIM also operates 31 outpatient sites throughout southeast Michigan specializing in sports medicine and orthopedics.
This position is located in a hospital based PMR Physician clinic. The clinic is open M-F. No nights, weekends or holidays. There are outreach opportunities if interested.
Athletic Trainer repsosibilities include, but not limited to: scheduling patient appointments, Physician appointment intake of medical history and vitals, discharge of patients, development and instruction of home excercise programas.
Under general supervision of the Physician team and according to established policies and procedures, develops and administers established treatment plans for clinic patients.
â�¢ At the direction of Physician, independently develops training and fitness programs.
â�¢ Orients and mentors other trainers and assists management with the marketing of programs.
â�¢ In collaboration with the Physician develops home exercise programs including therapeutic pool programs and sports injury therapy programs, and assesses patient progress through the program.
â�¢ Responsible for the development of community service projects, including personal health clinics on a variety of topics such as stretching before sports activities and the importance of aerobic exercise, and administers programs to schools, community centers and on-site staff.
â�¢ Prepares and monitors equipment such as hydrotherapy tanks, paraffin baths and hot packs, and performs minor repair on equipment, as needed.
â�¢ Instructs and prepares patients for treatment and reports patients progress to Physician.
â�¢ Orients and instructs trainers, students and volunteers.
1. Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited Athletic Trainer Certified Program, with current NATA Board of Certification Inc. certification.
2. License to practice as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Michigan as of 1/1/11.
3. Three years of experience with a minimum of one year in a clinical setting.
4. Completed Level 2 of Sports Medicine curriculum.
5. A minimum of 60 points in the professional development category of the performance appraisal with a minimum of 16 hours of outreach across a minimum of 6 outreach events.
