PMRS is seeking a full-time Board Certified/Board Eligible Physiatrist to join as a Neuro and Polytrauma Rehabilitation Specialist. Interest and experience in general rehabilitation, and outpatient neurorehabilitation including concussion management and complex spasticity management, as well as some related rehabilitation management is required. Completion of a TBI fellowship with specialty board certification and academic credentials are highly preferred. To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Incumbent must possess excellent general physiatrist evaluation and management skills as well be a strong partner to other physiatrists in our practice group and with our academic affiliate.\nThis staff physiatrist role:\nPrimary role includes providing Comprehensive TBI Evaluations and other Traumatic Brain Injury services for appropriate patients.\nAdditional roles include providing specialty tests such as Electrodiagnostic Testing and other procedures as peripheral joint injections, soft tissue injections, and botulinum toxin injections for spasticity as determined by needs of the service and education/training/certification/skills demonstrated\nProviding coverage for other physicians as needed during times of absence including clinical coverage, oversight of Physician Assistant(s), and others\nThe staff physiatrist will work with patients, families and rehabilitation team members and other providers including:\nRehabilitation nurses\nPhysical and Occupational Therapists\nSpeech and Language Pathologists\nRecreational Therapists\nProsthetists/Orthotists\nSocial Workers\nPsychologists\nPhysicians\nWhen appropriate and based on academic appointment, staff physiatrists are responsible for the teaching of residents and medical students, as well as responsible for oversight of care provided residents and students.\nStaff physiatrists will participate in administration of programs, committees, and other staff functions as delegated by the Chief of PM&R Service.\nEducational responsibilities include education of staff in the medical center who are involved in rehabilitation programs.\nProgrammatic responsibilities include establishment of policies and procedures; relationship management, promotion of programs; ongoing program evaluation; practice improvement activities; evaluation of resource utilization and other program development.\nAdvocacy within the medical center and the community for the department programs and the veterans they serve.\nThe staff physician will serve as the \"physician delegate\" of the Chief of PM&R Service.\nThe staff physiatrist will be expected to hold an appointment in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Vanderbilt\nUniversity Medical Center and comply with rules and regulations related to appointment. The provider will participate in faculty committees and medical student/residency training. Functions and Assigned Duties:\nClinical (90%):\nThe staff physiatrist is assigned to outpatient general physical, rehabilitation clinics, and subspecialty clinics. The primary duties for this position are in the Traumatic Brain Injury clinic and Second Level Evaluation/Comprehensive TBI Evaluations (OIF-OEF clinic). There may be needs to provide additional services in Amputee/Orthotics clinic, Musculoskeletal clinic, General PM&R clinic, Wheelchair clinic, Spinal Cord injury clinic, Pain clinic, EMG clinic, and other specialty clinics as needed. Part time positions with other clinical duties through the academic affiliate may be considered.\nAdministrative (10%): The staff physiatrist will spend time on administrative work related to program development and accreditation, as well as other committee work as determined by Service Chief Education: ad hoc, however this may be up to 10% protected non-clinical time pending goals and objectives. The staff physiatrist will spend time directly teaching and coordinating teaching activities for SOM and Department of PM&R medical students, residents, and other professionals (e.g. Physical Therapists, Physician Assistants).
