Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. License: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR[(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR(3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Additional Requirement: Preferred Experience: Incumbent is expected to be a board certified PM&R physician (physiatrist). Physical Requirements: The physician should be physically and mentally capable to perform the duties of the position including examinations, formulate the diagnosis and treatment plan and educate residents. ["This position is located in the Rehabilitation Service at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. Incumbent will provide services in the outpatient and inpatient settings. Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:\n-Knowledge of and alignment of work with all applicable VHA Directives, Medical Center Policies, standard work, etc. to ensure appropriate completion of assigned work.\n-Working knowledge and understanding of compliance with expected clinic operational and quality metrics (SAIL, HEDIS, etc.)\n- An integral member of the Interdisciplinary Polytrauma/TBI Team, Interdisciplinary Amputee Clinic Team and Rehabilitation Service Team as needed in the delivery of care for patients.\n-Participates in Service Quality Improvement/Performance Improvement, and Quality Management activities.\n- Participates in selected committees.\n- Expected to participate in appropriate continuing education activities as necessary.\n- Familiar with and adheres to the Medical Staff Bylaws of this facility.\n- Provides patient care in the Polytrauma/TBI clinic, other clinics as determined by departmental need, as well as by incumbent's procedural skills and interest (e.g. EMG and procedure clinic, including use of ultrasound), and inpatient care on the inpatient rehabilitation unit, as well as inpatient Blind Rehabilitation, including inpatient consults. In addition to performing direct patient care, incumbent must be able to act as a physician leader, providing physician level clinical leadership and guidance in clinical settings.\n- Provide physiatry services as specified in his/her clinical privileges. Services include new patient consultation, established (follow up) visits, EMG, musculoskeletal procedures including use of ultrasound, botulinum toxin injection including with use of EMG guidance\n- Responsible for providing the patient with risks, benefits and alternative treatments and securing the informed consent of the patient/family needed before conducting invasive procedures.\n- Evaluates the patient to assess any changes in the physical status, and make recommendations for continued care as needed.\n- Participates in various hospital committees, department and hospital in-service programs and acquires CME's as required.\n- Provides assessment of physical and functional status of Veterans in Rehabilitation Service clinics and inpatient rehabilitation unit and inpatient Blind Rehabilitation\n- Provide recommendations and works with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care to provide optimal functioning, decrease level of pain, and improve quality of life for Veterans.\n- Provides support to the Polytrauma Management program which includes training of providers within the Medical Center on various aspects of assessment and management of care for multiple diagnoses related to the specialty of physical medicine and rehabilitation.\n- Collaborates with the Coordinators of the Polytrauma/TBI, amputee, EMG and procedure clinics providing coverage for these clinics when there is a need.\n- Makes recommendations to Rehabilitation Service Chief regarding all resource management issues; including equipment, space, and educational opportunities etc.\n- Consults requesting Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation services are performed in a timely manner and that the results are made readily available to the referring practitioners\n- Other duties as assigned.
