Department/Unit Summary:
The mission of the Vanderbilt Department of Biomedical informatics has complementary themes that include education, research, service, and a commitment to our colleagues in our own institution and around the world. The Educational Mission is to educate undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate trainees in the theory and practice of biomedical informatics. The Research and Service Mission is to develop and evaluate innovative technologies for the storage, retrieval, dissemination, and application of biomedical knowledge, in order to support clinical practice, biomedical research, life-long learning, and administration and as a result, to contribute to the professional body of knowledge in the field of biomedical informatics. The Professional and Ethical Mission is to maintain cooperation and collegiality with all those who learn and work with us locally, nationally, and internationally; and, to develop and disseminate ethical and professional standards for the conduct of biomedical informatics research and for the use and evaluation of health care informatics applications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyzes and annotates complex medical charts using technical experience and clinical judgement to trace data quality issues or leverage data/information to improve outcomes or create new knowledge to advance patient care. Identifies data quality trends through chart review and provides this to leadership to address.
- Utilize multiple sources of data including tools to analyze and resolve problems.
- Develops work plans to ensure analysis is completed accurately and on time.
- Gathers and integrates appropriate data and conducts analyses using SQL.
- Chooses or develops appropriate data collection tool, output/visualization for the end-user or leadership, and communicates findings effectively.
- Under minimal supervision, provides a single point of contact to partner with customers in defining issue, scope and objectives.
- Ensures adherence to the highest of quality standards and maintains appropriate documentation.
- Collaborates with ETL and QA teams, VUMC stakeholders, subject matter experts, end-users, and third-party application experts to support business needs.
- Acts as liaison between operations, research teams and medical informatics departments and performs analysis of needs for new services or enhancements.
- Assists with submission of IT enhancement requests and guiding those requests through the process on behalf of customers. Assists ETL team and leadership in analyzing customer requests for changes or enhancements to production. Communicates with clients and conducts fact gathering sessions for enhancements. Handles simple root cause analysis of business data issues and provides clinical data guidance to non-clinical computer scientists on more complex issues.
- Competently identifies data mapping gaps and provides data requirements.
- Assists with improvements in workflows and processes with technology components through workflow gap analysis and current state and future state planning. Identifies new opportunities to optimize content delivery and improve user experience via content mapping efforts
- Supports data use workflows by coaching customers thru processes to troubleshoot and resolve technological or clinical considerations in collaboration with other teams as appropriate.
- Collects data and information pertinent to the situation and uses effective communication to define issues and problems. Identifies key stakeholders.
- Utilizes current evidences based nursing knowledge, including research findings to guide practice.
- Works on projects and work groups. Lead small area-based projects with oversight from manager or director.

Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) and 2 years relevant industry
Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration (LCR):
- Registered Nurse Required
Additional Qualification Information: - Master's Degree in Nursing Informatics (Preferred)* Experience in information technology and clinical healthcare operations. (Preferred)* Experience conducting manual chart reviews and conducting annotation on electronic health records (Preferred)* Experience or desire to learn to work with relational databases using SQL and assisting in the development and curation of clinical data. (Preferred)* Understanding of the extract, transform, load (ETL) and Quality Assurance (QA) process. (Preferred)* Certification- American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) - Nursing Informatics or CPHIMS (Preferred)
