The position of Physician (Pain Management), with the North Florida/South Georgia VA Healthcare System is located in the Prime Care Pain Management Section of the Malcom Randal VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida. Note: Length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay) To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical Requirements: Use of fingers, walking (up to 4 hours), standing (up to 4 hours), ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other eye, hearing (aid permitted). Environment Factors, working closely with others, working with hands in water (frequent hand washing), working around moving objects and vehicles, protracted or irregular hours of work. ["Duties of the position may include but are not limited to:\nThe Physician will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary Gainesville Primary Care PAIN clinic team (i.e. Primary Care, Behavioral Health, Mental Health, Pharmacy, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation). The Physician will evaluate and treat patients with pain and assist with our institution's effect towards comprehensive, effective and safe pain management for our veterans. Provider serving in this role will also assist our Primary Care clinics as consultant for difficult to manage pain related cases, coordinating services with our other pain management specialists. The incumbent will also be treating opioid use disorder with suboxone, collaborating with our Addiction Psychiatrists, and seeing patients for opioid risk mitigation. Other duties may be assigned by the Gainesville Chief of Primary Care or Chief Medical Officer as needed and appropriate, depending on the applicant's expertise and training, which may include primary care duties. Core Primary Care privileges: Preventive health care. Initial diagnosis of allergic and immunologic disease, and ongoing treatment of uncomplicated cases. Initial diagnosis of cardiac diseases, and ongoing treatment of uncomplicated cases. Initial diagnosis of dermatologic diseases, and ongoing treatment of uncomplicated cases. Initial diagnosis of endocrine and metabolic diseases, and ongoing treatment of uncomplicated cases. Initial diagnosis of gastrointestinal and hepatic diseases, and ongoing treatment of uncomplicated cases. Initial diagnosis of hematological and oncologic disease, and ongoing treatment of uncomplicated cases. Initial diagnosis of infectious disease, and ongoing treatment of uncomplicated cases. Initial diagnosis of neuropsychiatric diseases, and ongoing treatment of uncomplicated cases. Initial diagnosis of pulmonary diseases, and ongoing treatment of uncomplicated cases. Initial diagnosis of renal disease, and ongoing treatment of uncomplicated cases. Initial diagnosis of rheumatologic diseases, and ongoing treatment of uncomplicated cases. Chronic disease management of medical diseases, including hypertension, diabetes, ischemic heart disease, congestive heart failure, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, using clinical practice guidelines. Assessment of symptoms and problems which may suggest the need for surgical intervention, with referral for consultation from surgical specialists in the following specialties: Cardio-Thoracic surgery, General surgery, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics/Podiatry, Otolaryngology, Plastic surgery, Urology, Vascular surgery. Interpretation of EKGs Skills and Procedures: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation Electrocardiography Foreign body removal Incision and drainage of abscess Injection of bursa or joint Intravenous fluid therapy Laceration/wound management and repair Splint/reduce fractures and dislocations Alternative Pain Therapies: Criteria for Initial Privileges - Any Physician who is allowed by their State medical or osteopathic licensing board to practice acupuncture. - Provide a copy of the Battlefield Acupuncture training certificate.
