FAU’s Schmidt College of Medicine seeks an innovative and dynamic Academic Internist to join our faculty at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
The Assistant/Associate Professor of Integrated Medical Science/Academic Internist will:
Maintain an educational environment in the Bethesda Health East Continuity Clinic conducive to educating the internal medicine residents in each of the six ACGME competency areas so they are well prepared to sit for the ABIM examination.
Oversee and ensure the quality of clinical education in ambulatory internal medicine to meet ACGME criteria for outpatient clinical medicine in collaboration with the Program Director and Associate Program Directors.
Assure compliance with all requirements as set forth by the ACGME and the Internal Medicine Residency Review Committee for outpatient clinical medicine to assure patient safety, continuity of care, and resident safety.
Provide each resident with documented semi-annual evaluation of performance with feedback to the internal medicine residency Program Director in a timely manner within MedHub.
Serve as a member of the Clinical Competency Committee.
Monitor the need for and ensure the provision of back-up support systems when patient care responsibilities are unusually difficult or prolonged for a resident or supervising faculty so that all patients receive competent care.
Serve as a role model as an active, board certified, primary care internist who participates in Maintenance of Certification.
Develop a career focus in scholarly activity and develop a portfolio of publications, presentations and academic accomplishments over the next four years, reportable yearly in the electronic ACGME web ADS.
Report and discuss clinic productivity, finances, and quality parameters with Bethesda Health leadership, FAU internal medicine residency Program Director and the FAU College of Medicine Senior Associate Dean for Finance.
Hold semi-annual meetings with the internal medicine Program Director to review residents’ evaluations and progress in the continuity clinic.
Participate as time allows to support, facilitate and arrange for the clinical education of FAU College of Medicine students in their clerkships in internal medicine on a prearranged and scheduled basis.
Complete special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Inpatient teaching service weeks potentially available.
M.D. or D.O. from an accredited institution, credentials that merit appointment at the rank of assistant professor, and American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) board certification in Internal Medicine by time of application required.
Applicants must have significant teaching experience with residents and demonstrated teaching excellence.
The preferred candidate has served as an academic hospitalist of an internal medicine residency.
The ability to effectively communicate with a variety of students, residents, fellows and employees from widely diverse backgrounds is required.
