You Will Be Responsible For:
Demonstrates, through behavior, Florida Hospital’s core values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship, and Teamwork.
Helps facilitate successful delivery of services to linguistically diverse consumers
Explains hospital resources, office protocols, and limitations to clinicians and patients, makes appropriate referrals
Serves as a cultural and linguistic resource to both patients and providers to contribute to successful outcomes
Adheres to FH policies on patient privacy and confidentiality, customer relations, hospitality, and the Interpreters Code of Ethics
Understands the hospital’s system of service delivery
Articulates comprehensive knowledge of general and specialized Interpreter Services practices and performs and demonstrates these practices to others.
What You Will Need:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Completion of a nationally recognized interpreter training course** or a minimum of 1 year experience as an interpreter preferably in healthcare.
Strong linguistic skills - oral fluency in English and one or more non-English languages
Ability to understand a variety of regional accents and linguistic styles and registers
Ability to select appropriate mode of interpretation for each situation
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Interpreter Certification that is recognized as meeting or exceeding regulatory standards and are “qualified” to provide medical interpreting or a current nationally recognized medical or healthcare interpreter certification.
A score in the “Meets or Exceeds Expectations” percent range or equivalent on a reputable medical interpreter skills assessment or equivalent.
An AA degree in interpreting or medical interpreting
More than one year of experience primarily in medical interpreting in a hospital or clinical setting.
Successful completion of a nationally recognized interpreter training course.

The medical interpreter provides timely, accurate, and complete consecutive interpretation* both receptively and expressively and in a culturally sensitive manner to facilitate clear communication between non-English speaking or deaf patients and English speaking members of the FH patient care team in accordance with all applicable FH policies and procedures particularly relating to patient confidentiality and informed consent. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
