The Atlanta VAMC Health Care System in Decatur, GA is actively recruiting a Registered Nurse (Infection Control) in the section of Infectious Disease within the Medical Specialty Service Line. The incumbent interacts with Veterans, family members, and an interdisciplinary team of professionals. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care based on age-specific components. Duties include but are not limited to: Serves as the administrative and clinical expert in infection control, including but not limited to infection control aspects of blood-borne pathogens, multi drug resistant organisms, communicable diseases, water safety and the prevention of Legionella, and other infectious processes. Actively involved in continuously and systematically evaluating the quality and effectiveness of the Infection Prevention & Control Program, based on established professional, community, or regulatory standards, such TJC, OIG and others. Actively participates in committees and projects, as assigned, at the service, facility, VISN or national level. Collaborates with local public health officials to coordinate disease prevention efforts in the community. Integrates relevant public health issues into practice. Develops, coordinates and teaches educational programs on infection control related topics. Demonstrates evidence of critical thinking skills in identifying, analyzing, and resolving problems. Giving advice, counsel, or instruction to subordinate personnel on work and administrative matters as directed by the Nurse Manager of Infection Control. Gathering and reporting data from available sources (i.e. SAIL, IPEC, etc.) in written reports as well as graphs that demonstrate the facilities scores and compliance with current infection control guidelines Utilizes a systematic approach to surveillance to identify and analyze data and monitor effectiveness of prevention and control strategies that are consistent with the organization's goals and objectives. Tracks/monitors lab reports and other data sources to identify trends in infection occurrences. Uses appropriate statistical techniques to describe data, calculate rates and critically evaluate significance of findings. Reports data and makes recommendations to the infection prevention team, infection control committee and/or leadership as appropriate. Obtains and manages in a data base critical data and inofrmation, including surveillance for infections utilizing nationally recognized methods and definitions. Intervenes directly t prevent infections and/or develops a collaborative team approach in identifying, analyzing and resolving infection prevention and control issues. Develops presentations and provides training to educate employees on infection control. Also responsible for performance improvement, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards. He/she will serve as a representative on medical center and service committees and is administratively responsible to the Nurse Manager and responsible for other team members, i.e. RN, LPN, NA. Utilizes various software programs including but not limited to CPRS, VISTA, IPEC, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word. Consults with interdisciplinary leadership to identify, plan and provide education to Medical Center employees across service lines.
