VA New Jersey Healthcare System is recruiting for a full time Physician to perform clinical duties and effective outpatient care in the Emergency Department at the East Orange Campus. The incumbent is accountable to the Section Chief of the Emergency Department. Responsible for providing the most effective delivery of outpatient care while meeting and exceeding compliance standards. Duties include, but are not limited to: emergent intake, patient assessment, patient history, physical examinations, ordering diagnostic and therapeutic tests/studies, emergent resuscitation, and management of difficult airways. The Physician interprets ECGs and selected radiographic tests; performs invasive procedures for which incumbent is credentialed; initiates consults as well as referrals after discharge from the Emergency Department, and prescribes medications/supplies in accordance with VA policy and VA formulary and State regulations. Perform assessments/examinations on initial encounter with unscheduled, emergency and new patients. Coordinate patient treatment plans (involve Primary Care and specialists as appropriate). Order appropriate diagnostic tests as necessary to complete the evaluation. Admit patients to the hospital or discharge them from the ED with appropriate follow-up. Perform medication reconciliation with all ED discharged patients. Participate in Quality Assurance, chart reviews, and support applicable ED performance measures. Coordinate patient care with consultants as deemed appropriate. Provide physician oversight to nursing staff and other mid-level staff members. Attend physician staff meetings The selectee must demonstrate continuing effort to keep abreast of new medical developments and medical literature, and must meet facility and licensing requirements for continuing medical education (CME). Work Schedule: 10 hours per day, 4 days per week- to include weekend, holiday, evening, nights as needed, and rotating on call schedule - specifics to be discussed at time of interview.
