Research Analyst I BMT Oncology
Baylor Scott & White Health
The Blood & Marrow (BMT) Research Analyst I role is responsible for interpreting and analyzing data from various electronic medical records (EMRs) and paper records for patients undergoing blood & marrow hematopoietic stem cell transplants (HSCT), donor cellular or lymphocyte infusions (DCI/DLI), and other novel cellular therapies (e.g., CAR-T infusion) for hematologic diseases. This outcomes data is regularly reported to the Center for International Blood & Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR); the CIBMTR maintains several systems for reporting, collecting and maintaining this pre- and post-transplant data.
The CIBMTR tracks and evaluates each participating center in a couple of different ways. First through the Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) program which monitors a center’s ability to handle the form volume on a staggered trimester basis. 90% of all forms due within a given trimester must be submitted by the end of the next trimester (January through April due by the end of August, May through August due by the end of December, and September through December due by the end of April). And second through a 4-yr audit cycle. CIBMTR randomly selects patients to review and they have set “critical” or “random” data fields they audit for these patients. An error rate &< 3% is required to pass the audit (last audit in 2018; next audit in 2022). The BMT data team also works with the quality assurance & compliance team to maintain requirements for the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT).
In addition, regular audits of data is performed to make ensure a &< 3% error rate can be achieved. Various internal data tracking and outcomes analysis projects are performed and important priorities for the BMT physician group. These include things like readmissions tracking, review of infections, quarterly morbidity & mortality (M&M) review, bi-annual CAR-T review, monthly volume and outcomes report, survivorship tracking, chimerism tracking, minimal residual disease (MRD) tracking, graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) review, and outcomes analysis for transplant, regimen, and disease types.
