This position provides support to the Chief of PM&R Service in carrying out the mission of the service and VA Medical Center. This planning may include resource utilization, future program directions, marketing and financial review/planning. Duties include but are not limited to: Assessing and prescribing treatment for outpatients and inpatients referred by consultations. Providing specialty tests such as Electrodiagnostic Testing and other procedures such as peripheral joint injections, soft tissue injections, and botulinum toxin injections for spasticity as determined by needs of the service and education/training/certification/skills demonstrated. Providing coverage for other physicians as needed during times of absence including clinical coverage, oversight of Physician Assistant(s), and others. Teaching of residents and medical students, as well as responsible for oversight of the care provided residents and students. Assistant Service Chief physician will be willing to serve as the "physician delegate" of the Chief of PM&R Service. Assistant Service Chief will be expected to hold an appointment in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and comply with rules and regulations related to said appointment. Assistant Service Chief will have a supervisory role over other staff physicians and therapy supervisors as designated by Service Chief and in conjunction with discussions related to primary duty station.
