Job Summary Under the general supervision of the Administrative Director, the Nurse Manager oversees the clinical operations of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Parnassus, Mission Bay and Berkeley Outpatient Care Centers.
Works with Ophthalmic Technician Leads to provide and organize clinical support for faculty and residents within the practices and will oversee all aspects of the clinical session to ensure timeliness and efficiency of each patient visit. Works with the leadership team to identify opportunities for improved practice operations through the oversight and participation in projects. Works with staff to develop, monitor and maintain systems pertaining to all aspects of nursing care. Supervises all clinical staff, including Ophthalmic Technicians (COA, COT, COMT) ,Registered Nurses (RN) and Medical Assistants facilitating positive interactions among staff, patients and other departments within the organization.
The Nurse Manager maintains operations and facilities in a state of constant readiness for regulatory inspections. S/he is responsible for assuring licensure, competency and skills training and documentation for all clinical staff. Serves as a liaison to Ambulatory Nursing Administration to introduce new quality guidelines and to meet new standards.
Responsible for overseeing ordering of supplies and medications for the practices. Works as part of a team with Administrative supervisors, Technician Leads and Practice Manager to promote patient access while maintaining efficient, high quality patient care. Department Description The Ambulatory Ophthalmology practices at Parnassus are comprised of the following sub-specialty practices:
*Comprehensive Ophthalmology *Optometry
*Neuro-ophthalmology (Adult and Pediatric) *Ocular Oncology *Cornea *Glaucoma *Retina *Oculoplastics *Adult Strabismus *PROSE
Totals are approximately 75 FTE across 3 locations (Parnassus, Mission Bay, and Berkeley). The Clinical Operations Supervisor will report to Practice Manager who reports to the Director of Ophthalmology.
The Department of Ophthalmology is high volume outpatient practice. We average approximately 200 encounters per day across 3 clinical sites and that spans numerous demographics and age spectrums.
Our clinical operations are largely supported by a base of ophthalmic technicians who provide support in the areas of preliminary patient work up, diagnostic testing and minor procedural support. We also employ a small but essential group of registered nurses (RNs) whom triage acute patient calls, counsel patients and provide procedural support (Fluorescein Angiography, Corneal Cross Linking, etc). Required Qualifications - One year supervisory/management related experience
- Registered Nurse in the State of California and / or licensure in relevant clinical specialty.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Strong clinic / center patient care management skills; practice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and / or information technology; broad knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services
- Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making
- Strong leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management, and staff from all disciplines
- Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, and collaboration
- Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments
- Proven ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and delegate work functions efficiently
- The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations
Preferred Qualifications - Certification for Registered Nurse in Ophthalmology (CRNO)
- Master's Degree
- Knowledge of current and emerging best practices and technologies in the clinic / center healthcare industry
- Previous knowledge of ophthalmology with functional ability to triage acute patients based on initial triage
License/Certification - Registered Nurse in the State of California and / or licensure in relevant clinical specialty
- Active AHA CPR Certification
