Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385 bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma facility with an innovative , patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.
The Medical Librarian/Document Control Coordinator provides support and assistance to users researching medical information using database searches, inter-library loans, and other resources. He/she has advanced knowledge of library science and medical library operations and manages the activities related to the support of departments and physicians requiring evidence-based information, continuing education, and data acquisition at Desert Care Network (DCN). The candidate is also responsible for compiling and navigating policy drafts and documents through the facility approval process. The work is performed with a focus on professionalism and exemplary customer service. No patient health information access is required. � Trains health care professionals to understand the intrinsic value of information and perform basic literature searches. � Acquires full-text documents through inter-library loans and other media resources when staff cannot access these resources. � Provides executive research services for senior hospital administrative staff and institutional committees. � Manages and evaluates electronic database and e-journal subscriptions and ensures continuous access to online medical library resources. � Maintains and evaluates print collection including basic cataloging, book ordering and collection refinement. � Actively participates as a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee; surveys constituents to plan, trial and assess new content as needed. � Acquires quality metrics and benchmarks from facility databases (e.g. Kaleidoscope, Cerner, etc.) for residents and medical staff to use in quality improvement activities. � Maintains statistical reports to demonstrate library usage and electronic database/product usage; evaluates collection and budget based on metrics. � Demonstrates good public presence and the ability to interact with many types of people at different levels. � Coordinates the flow of documents and drafts through the approval process: � Provides writing, editorial, and bibliographic assistance � Compiles draft documents from the document control repository to present to Document Control Committee � Composes minutes from the meetings and corrections to documents � Monitors due dates for policy review and communicates to appropriate owner(s) in a timely manner � Manages internal scheduling of conference rooms and the resolution of any scheduling conflicts. � Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required: � Bachelor�s degree in Library Science � Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal � Ability to follow written and verbal instructions � Sufficient technical expertise in research and methodology and medical care to evaluate research materials and provide effective assistance to researchers � Computer skills and knowledge of website maintenance and electronic resource management � Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite � Ability to work on a team and independently without direct supervision � Reliable and punctual � Excellent time management to complete assignments in scheduled time frame
Preferred: � ALA-accredited Masters of Library and Information Sciences � Bachelor�s degree in Health Sciences, Biology or equivalent experience, serving health sciences constituents. � Proficiency with research related and information sharing technologies (e.g., Zotero, Google apps, Libguides, EBSCO EDS, OpenAthens, Screencast, etc.). � Membership in Academy of Health Information Professionals. � Minimum five years� work experience in academic library setting.
