The Department of Geriatrics at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine is seeking a dynamic community focused, scholarship interested, education oriented, faculty physician to become the Hospice and Palliative Medicine (HPM) Fellowship Director. Board Certification in HPM is required, with Board Certification in Geriatric Medicine preferred.

The HPM Fellowship Director maintains developmental and directorial responsibility of the ACGME accredited programming while partaking in departmental organization, curriculum development, recruitment, mentorship, professional development, teaching, research and clinical activities.

As a member of the Geriatric faculty, the HPM Fellowship Director will support and enhance HPM and Geriatric Medicine services that include a broad spectrum of patient care needs, clinical research initiatives, undergraduate medical education and graduate medical education for GME and UME learning experiences.

(25%) Maintain responsibility, authority, and accountability for: administration and operations; teaching and scholarly activity; HPM fellow recruitment and selection, evaluation, and promotion; disciplinary action of fellows; supervision of fellows; and fellow education in the context of patient care. Oversee the HPM Fellowship experience. Identify local, state and national funding sources for clinical and training services in the public sector. Collaborate with community partners in the monitoring of Fellowship experiences. Develop new clinical training sites for the HPM Fellowship programming as needed. Serve as liaison among the Chair, WSU Boonshoft School of Medicine, and other community and state agencies. Prepare and present information in facilitating these interactions for decision making. Collaborate with the GME Director to supervise non-physician, coordinator staff assigned to the HPM Fellowship programming.

(25 %) Didactic and direct patient care teaching and supervision of HPM fellows, Internal Medicine and Family Medicine residents, and medical students in inpatient and community-based settings. Provide academic leadership in quality patient care. Utilize strong interpersonal skills.

(30%) Provide direct patient care in inpatient and community-based settings to patients with a variety of medical needs, from diagnosis to management of complex disease processes. Patient documentation requires skill in electronic medical record system.

(10%) Scholarly activities such as submission to peer reviewed journals, presentations at local, regional, and national discipline-related professional societies as well as membership in discipline-related professional organizations.

(10%) Administrative duties and other service activities as determined by the Department Chairs.
