Bed Management Associates at Penn State Health play an important role in supporting positive patient outcomes by placing the patient in the right location to receive the best clinical care possible. They are responsible for providing 24/7 coverage for the Patient Logistics Department. Bed management responsibilities include obtaining patient bed reservations for inpatient and outpatient services, and verifying patient census. Registration responsibilities include completing the appropriate registration for patient services by maintaining encounter integrity, obtaining patient demographic and insurance information, and ensuring entry and data integrity between the Electronic Health Record, Patient Flow Software and ADT (Admission, Discharge, Transfer) system. Additional responsibilities include accepting phone calls from physicians, nurses, nursing leadership, housekeeping, transport, etc., and validating the nightly Operating Room schedule and targeting those patients to the appropriate location and level of care. Bed Management Associates also manage newborn admissions and demographic information changes to include changing the newborn's name, updating insurance, and attaching the correct guarantor.
High School Diploma or GED required.
1 year of job related experience required.
Excellent customer service, communication, and computer skills required.
Call Center or Patient Registration experience preferred.
Experience in a medical environment preferred
