POSITION SUMMARY Plans, organizes, performs and oversees the daily activities of the Clerical Staff. Duties of the Clerical Staff include Prepping / Scanning of patient records, Analysis, Correspondence / Release of Information, Coordination of record storage and audits for the department. Responsible for the activities and functions in the incomplete chart room with regard to chart completion including suspension of privileges of the Medical Staff. Coordinates and oversees all transcription workflow both internally and through the use of external transcription service companies. Assists the Director in interviewing clerical candidates, for the department. Oversees orientation, training, scheduling, counseling, and evaluation of Clerical Staff. Assists the Director in the development of departmental policies and procedures related to the clerical area. Participates in RWJBH quality committees, as required. Actively participates in all services to meet all Joint Commission /NJDHHS standards/regulations, Corporate Compliance initiatives, Medicare/Medicaid, RWJBH Medical Staff Rules and Regulations, and adheres to the American Health Information Management Association's Standards of Ethical Coding. Assists in managing the department in the Director's absence. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Degree in Health Information Technology or Business with certification preferred (RHIA/RHIT/RHIT-CCS eligible) by the American Health Information Management Association, or not less than 5 years managerial/supervisory experience in an acute care facility Health Information Management Department. Working knowledge of medical terminology, coding system software, medico-legal aspects of health information, AHIMA Ethical Coding Standards and Joint Commission/NJDHHS standards required. Strong oral and written communication, personnel management, and problem solving skills are essential.
