POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Finance provides administrative direction and coordination of the finance function for hospital operations. The Director oversees overall budget process for the facility, as well as directs long-range strategic financial planning and all aspects of the Capital Management Cycle.
FUNCTIONAL EXPECTATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: The Director of Finance analyzes daily operating results for the facility to ensure that revenues, expenses, and labor are within budgeted objectives.
As such, the Director s responsibilities are to:
Coordinate Accounts Receivable Reserve and Revenue Recognition Policies. Coordinate Capital Allocation and Forecasting Process. Oversee Operating and Capital Budget Process. Coordinate and consolidate Hospital Business Plan. Directly supervise shared services accounting functions. Coordinate areas of shared services (primarily Business Office, IT and Accounting) and assist facilities to ensure proper practice of Internal Control guidelines. Prepare mid-month financial reports and other related reports. Consolidate monthly financial results and assist with monitoring performance versus budget for the hospital. Consolidate annual financial budgets and assist in analyzing to assure they are meeting objectives. Along with the CFO, conduct semi-annual balance sheet audits of operating units.
The Director of Finance oversees the coordination of all hospital-related reporting to the Group Chief Executive Officer and Group Chief Financial Officer, including Month-end, Business Plan and Operating Budget consolidations. The Director of Finance partners with the Market Finance Department to perform a majority of the month-end close processes for the hospitals within the Market.
Additionally, the Director of Finance validates the integrity of net revenue and provides explanations to all hospitals; closes the market office facility ID, which includes all market cost allocations; oversees capital for the hospital; administers Payroll over the hospital; assists in Accounts Payable for the hospital; maintains the integrity of the Medical Clinic Board processes including Cash Management; has government reimbursement responsibilities for the hospital; and Market Government Reimbursement, Accounts Payable, Capital and appropriate General Accounting duties.
Further, the Director of Finance has responsibility for managing departmental budget; interviewing, selecting, hiring and retaining employees, including other management positions; overseeing and managing performance, including other management positions; promoting, demoting, or transferring of employees to meet organizational needs, including some other management positions; executing progressive discipline up to and including termination; leadership and supervision of multiple levels of employees, including other management positions; and management of funds with signatory authority according to Expenditure Approval policy and with authority to give budget approval.
CANDIDATE EXPERIENCE, ATTRIBUTES AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS At least seven years of progressive hospital finance experience. Solid experience with AR/AP, fixed assets, property tax reporting, cost accounting, and auditing. Proficient working knowledge of spreadsheets and database. Good organization skills with the ability to prioritize work load and successfully manage all financial activities. Demonstrated success in building value within an ethical manner and achieving financial expectations. Substantial financial management experience including financial operations, strategic and financial planning, contracts, reimbursement, budgeting and capital financing in a complex environment. A thorough understanding of healthcare trends with the ability to anticipate opportunities.
