ACNM seeks a hands-on collaborative midwife with experience managing clinical and domestic grant projects and advising staff. We seek a midwife who has working knowledge of clinal practice and the needs of practicing midwives.
The position is full-time and based on-ground at the ACNM National Office in Silver Spring, MD.
The Special Projects Technical Advisor is a CNM/CM designated midwife by education, certification, licensure and practice. The position supports the mission and values of the organization, serves as a clinical/technical representative to ACNM members, staff, and stakeholders, prepares project plans and budgets, prepares member communications to advise on midwifery research, position statements and endorsements, and manage domestic grant projects.
The successful candidate will support ACNM’s strategic goals and core commitments, leverage expertise to staff and volunteers across the organization, be a participative collaborator with excellent communications skills and a good working knowledge of midwifery practice.

Essential Job Duties
Works closely and collaboratively with the Director of MPEGO, Director of Global Outreach, Director of Government Affairs, and Director of Membership and Communications to advise on midwifery practice, collaborate on policy and practice issues, and address member inquiries.
Monitors and reports key issues and trends related to midwifery practice and shares this knowledge throughout ACNM.
Fields midwifery practice questions from members and the public and works closely with the communications team to advise on such matters.
Collaborates/assists in midwifery data gathering projects, research and reporting.
Interacts with ACNM internal and external stakeholders in relationship to domestic grant priorities and issues, and coordinates activities of domestic grant subcontractors.
Attends local meetings to represent ACNM in women’s health, midwifery, quality improvement and other health care agendas.
Develops project management plans and monitors budgets for technical and grant projects.
Collects, analyzes and reports on background information and date related to projects within the work plan.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience and Education
Minimum 3-5 years relevant professional experience in Midwifery preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience in clinical practice and research.
CNM or CM with master’s degree required. Previous experience must demonstrate a commitment to
Project management and project planning.

Certificate, Licenses, Registration
Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) or Certified Midwife (CM) required.
Writing, Language, Communication, and Presentation Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write white papers, articles, informational resources, speeches and other communications. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or Boards of Directors.
Ability to read and interpret statistical analysis pertinent within professional literature. Ability to prepare project and department budgets and read financial reports related to the budget.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and complex variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including versatile writing skills and strong, accurate proofreading skills.
