Shift Information: Day Job
40 hours/week. Monday-Friday, Day Shift
The Infection Prevention Coordinator (IPC) is trained in hospital epidemiology principles and is responsible for organization-wide surveillance, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of hospital-acquired infections (HAI); educating staff, patients, parents, and visitors about infection prevention; and contributing to the development of organizational policies and procedures using evidence-based guidelines to ensure rigorous infection control standards that meet TJC, OSHA, CMS, CDC, and other regulatory agencies and accrediting organizations’ recommendations and requirements. It is expected that the IPC will be a member of the Association of Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC). Effective oral and written communication skills are required to perform the work of the IPC. The IPC will participate in carrying on-call pager as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
Participates and conducts mock surveys and compliance audits.
Participates and conducts audits of high-level disinfection inside and outside of Sterile Processing Department.
Participates and conducts monitoring of Sterilization Processes in Sterile Processing Department.
Performs and conducts independent hand hygiene observations for infection control, offers just-in-time coaching/education, and reports findings to infection control team for monthly reporting.
Performs and conducts independent environmental cleaning observations for infection control, offers just-in-time coaching/education to EVS staff, and reports findings back to infection control team for monthly reports.
Performs and conducts isolation observations for infection control, offers just-in-time coaching/education to staff on PPE and/or correct use of isolation precautions, and reports findings to infection control team for monthly reports.
Conducts organizational surveillance for hospital-acquired infections (HAI) and Communicable Diseases according to Ohio Administrative Code Chapter 3701-3.
Audit and teach hand hygiene classes for hand hygiene coaches on scheduled basis. Review hand hygiene data monthly for units/departments to collaborate on improvement work.
Participate and conduct Communicable Disease Exposure investigations and Outbreaks.
Audit and teach Nurse Residency ASCEND education classes on scheduled basis.
Audit and teach staff and provider education classes as needed.
Communicate with outside agencies on a variety of issues pertaining to infection diseases, such as but not limited to; communicable disease reporting.
Maintain timely and proper documentation.
