PRIMARY FUNCTION: To lead the Value Institute's Community Engaged Research Core.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the Community Engaged Research Core team and project portfolio.
Develops and manages community-engaged research projects: plans, coordinates, and is accountable for major research activities including protocol development, IRB compliance, and dissemination of results.
Leads in conducting research and evaluation projects with institutional partners including clinical department and service line teams.
Plans organize and conduct community-based participatory research
Fosters collaboration with internal and external partners to work on research projects and evaluations.
Assists CCHS clinical investigators in developing their own community-engaged research projects from developing the research plan to organize the data collection/management and analysis.
Prepares proposals and grants for federal and private funding organizations.
Mentors research scientists, research associates and student interns in their own research.
Communicates the results and impact of the Value Institute's work via participation in professional meetings and publication of research results in peer-reviewed publications.
Engages in business development activities, identifies opportunities and strategic partnerships, cultivates relationships with existing and potential new clients, writes proposals, develops budgets and expands Christiana Care Health System's health services research expertise.
Performs other related duties as required.
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:
Ongoing contact with community partners, research investigators, statisticians and data analysts. Frequent contact with internal customers of CCHS including health care providers and department and service line leaders. Regular contact with external customers of CCHS including local, state and national agencies, other health care institutions and academic centers.
DIRECTION/SUPERVISION OF OTHERS: Supervise research associates, research assistants or student interns.
DIRECTION/SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Corporate Director, Value Institute.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Terminal Degree in a community-engaged research field.
Minimum of 5 years of research experience in a health care or academic environment.
A demonstrated capability as a principal investigator. Supervisory experience would be a plus.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY Requirements:
Knowledge of regulations regarding research including Christiana Care policies and Institutional Review Board.
Knowledge of statistical methods.
Knowledge of planning and implementing research protocols.
Knowledge of grant preparation, submission and approval process.
Knowledge of the academic publication process and interest in participating in the development and publication of papers.
Skill in technical writing experience and proficiency in communicating with various audiences.
Skill in research design.
Skill in oral presentation.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to plan, organize coordinate and execute programs and projects.
Ability to work independently as well as within interdisciplinary teams.
Ability to prioritize and balance large numbers of projects.

Ability to ambulate within the hospital setting (walking, stairs, etc.).
Regular sitting, occasional standing and lifting loads of 5-10 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Generally fast-paced, potentially stressful environment with constant research deadlines and new projects coming in. Possible exposures to infections, communicable diseases, open wounds, chemicals, solvents, chemotherapeutic agents and needles.
