Vanderbilt University Medical Center Executive Search Team is conducting a national search for a Revenue Cycle Patient Billing Director . The Director will p rovide overall leadership for the Revenue Cycle Patient Billing Department by developing goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; supervising, coordinating, and evaluating the activities of the departmental staff; preparing operating and capital expenditure budgets; and performing personnel administration functions.
The Director will be responsible for ensuring that all billing office contact with our patient customers is clear, accurate, timely, and respectful. Regular communication with Vanderbilt University Medical Center leadership regarding process improvement plans and execution to enhance patient billing customer service and business operations is required.
Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) and eight years' experience

Proven experience developing and leading customer engagement platforms

Planning and Analysis
Design, implement, evaluate, and market programs to maximize patient/customer satisfaction and reimbursement
Analyze and predict the long-range impacts of proposed decisions and plans
Analyze and assess ongoing department programs to identify areas where improvements are warranted
Initiate changes in or develop new policies and procedures to ensure departmental success
Customer Service, Communication and Collaboration
Ensure excellent customer service to both internal and external customers by
Participation in departmental and interdepartmental committees and leadership meetings to facilitate information exchange
Utilization of customer satisfaction scores, best practice metrics, and market information
Promotion of professionalism in all customer interactions
Create an organizational culture both within and across departments that provides a safe, satisfying and enriching environment for employees and provides qualified, competent staff to meet customer's needs
Define the qualifications and performance expectations for all staff positions through the Performance Development system, including department-specific job descriptions and measurable performance standards.
Ensure adherence to all Human Resource and VUMC policies and procedures
Supervise department members including planning, coordinating, and controlling the workload
Provide support and advice to staff to ensure excellent customer service
Create an environment that encourages and supports self-development and learning for all staff through regular feedback, by assuring the development of staff through orientation, training programs, work experiences and assessment of competencies by meeting the performance expectations stated in his or her job description.
Ensure adherence to quality and productivity standards
Prepare an annual operating budget for the department and sub-units, including direct labor, material and supplies, services, equipment maintenance, and replacement
Ensure goals, objectives, and service standard requirements are achievable within budget
Analyze and evaluate budget variances to determine the cause and prepare written justification or develop alternative plans for cost containment
Leadership and Continuous Improvement
Ensure the most effective operations of the department through program development, process improvement, and coordination/integration of processes with other departments.
Standardize services, processes, resources, and practice to improve efficiency.
Provide leadership to promulgate the mission and the values of the institution to the department.
Model behavior consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the enterprise through leading, coordinating projects, innovation, initiating improvement, and developing new programs.
Demonstrate a leadership style that is facilitative and collaborative.
Define and achieve financial targets in support of the business goals of the institution.
