This role provides coordinated governance, reporting and structure for the large strategic and operational initiatives system-wide and oversees the Continuous Improvement (CI) program management. This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the Revenue Cycle CI team and Revenue Cycle Project Management. The individual will develop and streamline processes to ensure effective and efficient portfolio structure is in place. This individual has overall responsibility for monitoring program performance including compliance of customer service, stakeholder relations, workforce and financial goals and objectives as developed for the portfolios goals. The role evaluates trends within the facility-based CI activity and provides enterprise level strategy. Ensures standardization of Revenue Cycle process, technology utilization, staff utilization, and staff functions for the Banner Health Network. Provides innovative solutions to support Net Revenue improvement and Accounts Receivable reduction.
Directs the identification and implementation of Revenue cycle improvements to ensure a clearly defined scope, root cause, operational impact, ROI opportunities and costs. Creates business proforma and submits in a standardized proposal template for review by the Executive Oversight team. Proposals will seek to improve efficiency, effectiveness and best practice standardization of associated Revenue Integrity processes.
Guides the development and implementation of short and long-range goals and objectives for the companys portfolios, programs and projects. Reports progress, risks and requests for escalation to Executive leadership for Revenue Cycle CI and other projects and findings.
Serves as primary liaison between the executive sponsors, pillar leaders and the project teams. Remains tactically aware of all intersecting projects and possible barriers to the portfolios goals and objectives. Manages system-wide Revenue Cycle CI initiatives and projects to ensure standardized best practice. Ensures coordination with other relevant system leaders in the research, define and design process.
Directs staff in developing materials including communication, training, policies, procedures and monitoring to ensure successful implementation of the improvement solution. Develops and supports internal controls to ensure that assets are safeguarded, policies and operating procedures are followed, necessary controls are effective and efficient, and compliance with current laws and regulations is achieved. Continually evaluates work activities and processes to ensure maximum efficiency and collaboration.
Serves as an integrator of people, processes and systems. Builds and supports effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and organizations. Develops partnerships, coordinates activities, reviews work, exchanges information, and/or resolves problems related to the portfolio and program of work. Engages key stakeholders to include clinical operations for root cause and solution validation.
Directs CI staff in developing and implementing standardized approaches to analyze Revenue Cycle data dashboards to identify process trends, issues, root causes and opportunities for improvement. Prepares and manages executive level updates for the Revenue Cycle projects. Manages the training program for CI team members and provide quality review feedback for Program Managers and Sr. Managers to ensure accuracy and timeliness of education.
Regularly meets with assigned facility CFOs and other local senior leadership review CI project progress.
Crafts and delivers executive level communication for local CI project progress, risks, escalations and performance reporting. Provides assistance, coordination and education on Revenue Cycle related issues to system leaders.
Requires a Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field or equivalent experience.
Requires a proficiency level typically achieved with 7+ years of leadership or consulting revenue cycle and revenue integrity experience and knowledge (patient billing/clean claims; health information management; etc.). Requires strong human relations, organizational, process improvement and project management and communication skills as well as demonstrated leadership skills. Must have advanced computer skills with strong working knowledge of IT systems, applications and functions from clinical and business perspectives. This position requires the understanding of patient billing systems and business processes in a highly complex environment. A strong working knowledge of government payer programs and reimbursement methodologies (CMS, AHCCCS, CHAMPUS) and of managed care programs is essential.
Previous leadership experience preferred; MBA preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
