Christiana Care Health System is currently recruiting for an Infection Preventionist. In this position you will work in a collaborative manner with all members of the healthcare system and community. The Infection Preventionist implements a system- wide Infection Prevention program aimed at supporting patient safety initiatives and provides education for staff, patients and visitors in the principles, policies and procedures related to Infection Prevention.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs surveillance related to infections and communicable diseases for Christiana Care Health Services, including impatient, outpatient and other ancillary sites.
Identifies trends, clusters, outbreaks or areas of concern and prepares action plans as appropriate.
Implements approved action plans, working with departmental managers; monitors results until areas of concern are resolved.
Maintains appropriate records and prepares reports for specific departments, Infection Prevention and Performance Improvement Committees, and others as required.
Oversight and management of the Special Isolation Unit for Emerging Diseases
Assesses the educational needs of staff, patients, residents and visitors.
Develops educational plans. Implements and evaluates educational curricula in response to identified learning needs, organizational needs and goals, and infectious/communicable disease trends.
Utilizes principles of adult learning and appropriate learning strategies for their target groups.
Reports instances of designated diseases to the Division of Public Health; assists Public Health by obtaining pertinent patient information.
Reviews and evaluates departmental/ system-wide infection control related policies/procedures and environment.
Recommends revisions and writes new policies and procedures as appropriate.
Maintains knowledge of clinical practices as related to Infection Prevention and epidemiology, including age related patient needs and care.
Acts as a consultant to CCHS facilities, community agencies and internal departments on matters related to Infection Prevention.
Maintains knowledge of current federal, state, local regulations and accreditation standards
Assists in problem identification and resolution throughout the organization in Infection Prevention matters.
Serves as a team member on committees and participates in environmental rounds.
Serves as a leader or team member on performance improvement committees and work groups as necessary.
Receives calls as needed on weekends, nights, and holidays regarding Infection Prevention issues, i.e., patient placement, isolation precautions, equipment/environmental cleaning/disinfection. Will be on-call when scheduled.
A graduate of an accredited school with a baccalaureate degree in medical laboratory technology, nursing or related science.
Experience in infection prevention and knowledge of principles of epidemiology and infectious diseases preferred.
Management, supervisory and/or experience as a health care educator.
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Special Requirements: CBIC certification (CIC) preferred on hire. CBIC required within 2 years of hire as an Infection Preventionist.
