Visiting Assistant Director, Medical Coverage Analysis for Clinical Trials
The University of Illinois Hospital & Clinics (UI Health) is seeking an Assistant Director, Medical Coverage Analysis for Clinical Trials. This position will develop a Medicare Coverage Analysis program. This position will oversee the Medical Coverage Analyses program ensuring clinical trials policies and procedures are in compliance with applicable healthcare regulations. The incumbent will also assist study personnel with developing a study budget that complies with fair market value and commercial reasonableness stipulations.
Assist in development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive Medicare Coverage Analyses clinical trial billing program for the UIC research communities and all entities and ancillary departments who touch components of human subjects' research to ensure compliant research operations.
Educate and guide research community on the federal and state regulations and University of Illinois at Chicago policies/procedures governing Medicare coverage of drug and device clinical trials and clinical trial billing.
Assist Management in the analysis and development of pricing models for industry-sponsored trials and research personnel in the development of their internal budgets.
Develop centralized log for maintenance of records including correspondence with researchers and staff personnel.
Develop training materials and conduct training to University of Illinois at Chicago research community.
Develop centralized model for communications with Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B for research related queries and prior approval for device clinical trials.
Assist with policy and procedure development surrounding compliant billing for clinical trials.
Develop and utilize Medicare coverage analyses formats/templates.
Conduct Medicare coverage analysis on clinical trials.
Serve as the subject matter expert by providing educational opportunities on Medicare coverage on clinical trials.
Develop and implement plan for conduct of coverage analyses on legacy clinical trials.
Conduct audits of clinical trials billing.
Plan, assign and review work of staff to ensure that group objectives are met. Hire, train, develop and manage staff to ensure that a qualified staff exists to meet group objectives.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Master's degree in Clinical Research or Law degree required.
A minimum of five years of experience in clinical research required.
Experience in an academic medical center preferred.
Must have prior contract and budget experience in the context of clinical trials.
Strong working knowledge of Center for Medicare & Medicaid's Services regulations and guidance, fraud and abuse laws, and Office of Inspector General compliance guidance for both hospitals and pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
Excellent analytical skills with an ability to integrate and synthesize the federal regulations pertaining to human subjects' research with Medicare/Medicaid regulations into a comprehensive, workable program/tool.
Well organized and highly motivated, able to work with milestones/deadlines and demonstrated presentation/public speaking skills.
