University Hospital in Syracuse, NY is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to serve in a leadership role in the Hospital's operations providing administrative oversight for all ancillary and support operations. The COO is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hospital. The COO works closely with the senior leadership team to determine long-term institutional objectives, develop a strategy to achieve those objectives, and effectively communicate the strategy throughout the organization. Participates in the planning and development of short and long range plans, goals, and objectives. Will serve as the primary operational liaison and point of coordination between hospital and ambulatory components, University departments, and external government agencies and community constituencies on a wide range of clinical, programmatic, and/or administrative issues on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer. Serves as a principal administrative/operations advisor to the Chief Executive Officer. Has a lead role in the development and maintenance of a master facilities plan. Helps to ensure operational efficiency in order to meet the needs of providers. Master's degree in health administration, business administration or related field required. Minimum of eight years of progressive professional health care management experience (preferably in an academic medical center or teaching hospital); demonstrated success in working with large medical staff; demonstrated skills and ability to bring people and organizations together; ability to balance competing demands and to set priorities; demonstrated effective skills in leadership, medical staff development, positive employee and community relations, fund raising, and organizational development. Must possess proven skills to work positively with leadership; develop and maintain medical staff respect and support; mentor other senior management; participate in fund raising and interact effectively with top business and community leaders; and develop strong employee relationships.
