Associate Director of Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive

The Associate Director for Patient Care Services is the Nurse Executive for the facility. She/he is responsible for the practice of nursing 24/7 by registered nurses, advance practice nurses, and allied health staff (LVNs, NAs, Health Techs, etc.). She/he has fine authority over Sterile Processing Services, Chaplain Service and Inpatient Social Work. The Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive will exercise final authority and approval over nursing functional statements, descriptions, nursing care policies and procedures/nursing standards of patient care, treatment, and services; standards of nursing practice; nurse staffing plans; and standards to measure, assess, and improve patient outcomes. She/he will ensure that all registered nurses, advance practice nurses, and licensed practical nurses are licensed, certified, and/or registered upon employment, and thereafter. She/he will ensure a competency process is in place to evaluate individual practice, as well as a review process for annual performance ratings. The Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive is a member of the Executive Team. Leadership Team, along with the Medical Center Director, the Associate Medical Center Director, the Assistant Medical Center Director, and the Chief of Staff. The Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive participates fully in upper-level management decisions on behalf of nursing and is a member of all medical center level Councils and Committees, when applicable, that governs and influences the operations of the medical center. The Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive and other nursing leaders participate with readers from the Executive Leadership, management, medical staff, clinical areas, and administrative areas in strategic planning and decision-making processes. Nursing leaders in all services are permitted input into nursing policy development and may participate in the Associate Director for Patient Care Services Staff Meetings, encompassing nursing management and staff development. Appropriate delegation of nursing activities is accomplished to nurse leaders in all services. Reports to the Medical Center Director.
