The Clinical Laboratory Sciences (CLS) Department of the School of Health Professions (SHP) of The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) invites applications for a CLS Faculty Position to join an established and well-respected program with dynamic faculty and professional staff (https://shp.utmb.edu/clinicallaboratorysciences/default.asp). The rank is non-tenured Assistant Professor, with consideration of other rank commensurate with background and experience.
Applicants must have a Master's degree in a health-related field or an equivalent discipline. Additional minimum qualifications include 5 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) and a national laboratory certification as a MLS(ASCP) or MT(ASCP). Preference will be given to applicants who possess a doctoral degree and 3 years of instruction in a MLS program with online teaching experience.
Primary responsibilities include instruction of CLS courses to on-campus and distance students that includes the development of lesson plans and the preparation and delivery of presentations. Service, student advisement, administrative tasks, and participation in scholarly and professional activities are also integral components of the position.
Applicants must have a Master's degree in a health-related field or equivalent. Additional minimum qualifications include 5 years experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist and hold a national laboratory certification as a MLS(ASCP) or MT(ASCP).
Specific Job Related Duties
1) Teach Clinical Laboratory Sciences courses (lectures and labs) to on-campus and distance students. = 70% 2) Develop lesson plans, prepare presentations, and obtain visual aids for on-campus and distance web-based courses, grade student papers, and assist in coordinating clinical rotations. = 15% 3) Advise students (both on-campus and distance) on academic, clinical and research activities. = 5% 4) Participate in scholarly, professional, and administrative service activities. = 10%
Doctoral degree in a health-related field or equivalent.
Experience in providing laboratory test interpretation and recommendation.
Preferred Work Experience
3 years experience teaching in a Medical Laboratory Science program or equivalent. Online teaching experience.
