Job Summary The CANCER REGISTRAR II position is primarily responsible for identifying and registering individuals with a diagnosis of malignancy and providing continuing management in the treatment and necessary collection of data on assigned cancer patients. This includes, but is not limited to, identifying, collecting and maintaining timely, accurate and complete information about cancer diagnose and ongoing treatment within the organization; acts as liaison between the State Cancer Registry, medical staff and network staff who has an interest in the cancer disease process. They compile data about these patients over time; periodically determines the disease and vital status of the registered patients; retrieve and analyze information from the registry database and disseminates information in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations in accordance with professional ethic; responds to reporting and research needs of the network, accreditation organizations, medical community and other approved requesters for this information. Serves as the team lead, subject matter expert and technical expert.
Abstracts cancer cases and other reportable cases into the Cancer Registry data base in accordance with applicable reporting standards in an accurate and timely manner. Enters appropriate codes and text into the Cancer Registry software system
Performs casefinding by reviewing and analyzing all relative patient information including charts, path reports, imaging reports, radiation therapy records and disease indices for cancer codes to determine case reportability.
Assists with Cancer Conferences, records minutes, sets up equipment, conducts the physician-abstract review process, keeps attendance records and recruits cases for presentation.
Analyzes charts to determine and place into the medical record the appropriate TNM staging form. Determines the physician to complete the form. Creates a deficiency for the physician to complete the staging. Monitors the forms and charts for completed TNM staging forms.
Participates in sanctioned educational conferences, seeks assistance from supervisor as needed.
