Job Summary The Patient Account Collections Representative position is responsible for the billing, collection, research, preparation and submission of patient financial accounts. This position will reconcile complex, multi-payment accounts involving internal and external clients. During the collection process, follow-ups with insurance providers and patients will be necessary to finalize payments. The interpretation of contracts will be necessary to accurately account for all payments due. Basic knowledge of hospital coding is required to interact with hospital departments.
Contacts healthplans to obtain claim status and reconciles accounts on a daily basis, utilizes technical ability and understanding of applicable insurance contracts, and regulations.
Maintains current knowledge of regulatory billing requirements for specified third party payors. Attends inservice/continued education.
Interprets data processing reports and applies the information as needed for daily departmental productivity.
Participates in training other staff members on reconciliation techniques and other aspects of the position.
