Applications are invited from high energy, results-oriented individuals to fill the position of Chief, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Internal Medicine, for the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Nebraska Medicine. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a well-established division and take it to the next level of excellence in clinical care, education and research. The Chief will lead the division faculty with the responsibility for teaching, research and clinical service, as well as academic planning, development and resource management. He/she will also play a key leadership role in the collaborative efforts throughout the College of Medicine and across the entire UNMC campus.
UNMC and Nebraska Medicine are home to one of the most respected and well-known organ transplant programs in the country. Since its inception in 1985, the Liver Failure and Transplant Program has earned international recognition, a worldwide referral base and Medicare designation. Through dedicated efforts in education, research and innovations in clinical medicine, they have played a significant part in shaping the field of solid organ transplantation and attract patients from across the country and around the world.
The Nebraska Medical Center's Small Bowel Transplant Program is one of only 10 in the nation and is ranked in the top two. The program is one of the largest and most comprehensive programs for small bowel transplantation in the world. Faculty from the Division of Gastroenterology/Hepatology play key roles in UNMC and Nebraska Medicine’s multi-disciplinary approach to intestinal failure.
With an appreciative donor’s generosity, the Paustian Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center is now being planned as an integrated center for patient care and research. A search is currently underway for the Director of the IBD Center, and it is anticipated that the Center will play an integral part in the future growth of the division.
The successful GI/Hepatology Chief candidate will be an MD/DO (or equivalent degree), who is board certified in Gastroenterology. He/she will demonstrate scholarship, research, clinical and service accomplishments that would merit the rank of Associate Professor or higher in the College of Medicine. He/she will have a record of successful experience in academic leadership and mentoring, outstanding clinical and teaching skills, a track record of successful and productive collaborative research efforts and the demonstrated ability to create and build programs.
The University of Nebraska Medical Center and Nebraska Medicine are undergoing a major expansion of clinical and research facilities. These include the new Buffett Cancer Center, The Drug and Development Center, The Lauritzen Surgery Outpatient Center and the Truhlsen Eye Center. The University of Nebraska and Nebraska Medicine comprise three health care campuses. Nebraska Medicine is a member of the Nebraska Regional Health Network that provides integrated referral services for nine hospital systems and 46 rural hospitals.
