The Robert J. Margolis, MD, Center for Health Policy at Duke University has an opening for a Research Director to direct the real-world evidence (RWE) portfolio. Reporting to the Duke-Margolis Deputy Director, Policy, the Research Director will be responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of projects related to improving the use of RWE within the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s regulatory framework, as well as more systematic uses of RWE to support biomedical innovation and value-based payment and care.
The Research Director will interact regularly with external project sponsors and collaborators, including government agencies, academic centers, advocacy organizations, medical product manufacturers, and health care organizations. He/she will collaborate with Duke-Margolis leadership and manage the day-to-day implementation of multiple projects to ensure the successful execution of project objectives and the Center’s strategic goals. The work site for this position will be the Duke-Margolis offices in Washington, DC, and would require some travel to Durham, NC to coordinate with Margolis Center faculty and staff.
Educational attainment and work experience that meets one of the following:
Advanced degree (e.g., MD, PhD, PharmD, JD) and at least five years of relevant work experience, OR Master’s degree in health policy, health economics, public health, or other relevant field and ten or more years of relevant work experience.
At least 4 years of experience in a position of comparable experience and responsibility preferred.
Proven ability to plan and organize content with attention to detail and creativity.
Proven ability to write business documents and plans.
Professional and assertive with a positive approach to working in a team environment and demonstrated proficiency in managing teams to achieve project objectives.
Work experience in fast-paced office setting, preferably in a government, non-profit, or policy/political organization.
Experience and demonstrated knowledge of real world data (RWD) and RWE development, drug and/or device development and policy, and/or drug coverage and reimbursement approaches.
Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
Strong organization, high initiative, strong interpersonal skills, discretion, poise, and mature judgment.
Ability to interact and manage relationships with high-ranking individuals and complex organizations.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with varied responsibilities.
Flexibility to work in the evenings, early mornings, and on weekends, if required.
Ability to travel 10%.
