The Department of Specialty Medicine at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine - Southern Utah (RVUCOM) invites applications at all professional ranks for a full-time, non-tenure track position as a Specialty Medicine / General Surgeon Faculty member.
The campus is located in Ivins, Utah, 20 minutes from St. George. PRIMARY PURPOSE: Participate in teaching, service, scholarly activities, and appropriate administrative work at RVUCOM-SU.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Actively participate in the education and instruction of medical students, other health care professional students, and residents while providing mentorship and motivations for learning, research and scholarly activity in classroom environments, clinical settings, active learning groups, laboratory experience and research opportunities.
Establish and maintain scheduled office hours for student advising, tutoring, remediation and consultation.
Provide service to the university community and students through serving on COM and department committees, providing leadership, mentorship and expertise to student, participating in community outreach events and with professional organizations or groups as assigned by the Department Vice Chair or Department Chair.
Participate in curriculum development, assessment and modification as a part of the colleges ongoing quality improvement and assessment program.
Participate in the assessment and evaluation of students and residents, provide feedback and remedial assistance to ensure that the students of the COM meet the standards established by the faculty and college and obtain the knowledge, skills and competency established.
Participate in the assessment or evaluation of and provide feedback to other members of the faculty as a portion of the colleges ongoing quality improvement and assessment program.
Maintain a personal and professional development plan and portfolio, including documentation of teaching, professional development activities and plans, service provided to college and communities, scholarly activity and research to assure personal growth and continued competency with specialty field.
Demonstrate the highest standard of professionalism and ethical behavior in all aspects of personal and professional actions and performance.
Demonstrate and role model an ongoing ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors and support staff.
Demonstrate adaptability and the willingness to assist the university and college in fulfilling its mission and vision though teaching, academic administrative duties (course/system coordinator), community service and/or perform special duties as assigned.
Advance the prestige of the University and College through advancement of it mission and vision and advancement of your personal career.
Other duties as assigned by the SU Campus Dean or his/her designee.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrate knowledge and skill in the delivery of medical education.
Demonstrate knowledge of varied curriculum templates.
Demonstrate ability to mentor and motivate students and peers.
Terminal degree (DO or MD degree) with current Board Certification in appropriate area of specialization.
Background in general surgery.
Academic and teaching experience at a medical school or in a Graduate Medical Education program.
Good standing with all regulatory and governmental boards and agencies.
Eligible for medical license and all required certificates in the state of Utah.
Eligible for coverage by university’s malpractice insurer if applicable.
Academic and teaching experience at a medical school or college of osteopathic medicine.
More than 3 (three) years of academic or clinical teaching experience.
Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience in clinical, professional or educational settings.

About Rocky Vista University
Rocky Vista University's Southern Utah campus in Ivins opened in July 2017.
The 32-acre Southern Utah Campus is located in Ivins – approximately 20 minutes from St. George, the largest city in Southern Utah. The two-story, 104,000 square foot building will complement the natural scenery of the area. It includes two 200-seat lecture halls, three seminar rooms, 36 breakout or study rooms, a clinical skills and OPP lab, a full dissection gross anatomy lab, a multi-purpose lab, a simulation center, standardized patient rooms, and a 8,950 square foot library. The school seats approximately 125 students each year.
This campus also includes a 23,000 square foot medical office building across the street, which will house administrative offices and a future medical clinic. Additionally, the Southern Utah Veterans Home, adjacent to the campus, provides students with a continuity of care experience.
