The Florida Department of Health is seeking an experienced public health professional to serve as the lead public health official of the Florida Department of Health in Duval County. The Florida Department of Health in Duval County is located in Jacksonville, Florida and is responsible for assessing, maintaining, and improving the health and safety of the entire community within the county as an essential part of the Florida Department of Health. This position will be responsible for over 400 full time staff and an annual budget of $37 million.
This position serves over one of the 67 county health departments in the State of Florida. The position requires extensive experience in the management and administration of public health programs, essential public health services, health policy issues, public health advocacy, and working with elected officials, governmental bodies, community partners, and the media. Applicants should demonstrate knowledge of fiscal and budget management, human resource management, information systems, and a demonstrated capacity to lead an organization through a continuous quality management process.
Must be a physician that currently holds, or is eligible for, a Florida Medical license (Chapters 458 or 459, Florida Statutes). Preference will be given to a physician with a Master's degree in Public Health or a physician with extensive public health experience.
Preference will be given to those candidates with a senior leadership background and executive management experience. The position requires knowledge of information systems, human resource management, as well as knowledge and experience in bio-terrorism preparedness and disaster response.
A qualified candidate is a senior executive with a passion for public health and prevention with extensive experience in core public health practices and principals. The candidate will have a commitment to effective management, team leadership, decisiveness, sensitivity and enthusiasm for diverse populations and community involvement. The candidate in this role has to demonstrate superior leadership, cultural and interpersonal skills. Sensitivity and skill are especially important given the growth of the community and threats of bioterrorism, natural or man-made disasters, or flu pandemic. This position requires extensive knowledge and use of quality management tools and methods.
