The Government Relations Department within the MemorialCare Health System is charged with supporting MHS mission through development of strong alliances with community organizations and business groups, as well as federal, state, and local elected/appointed officials. This includes leading, developing, initiating and managing community engagement activities including educations forums, briefings, and events. The Community Outreach and Government Relations manager is responsible for assisting in the implementation of MHS Government and Community Relations Strategic Plan.
* Leads, develops, plans, initiates and manages educational forums, summits, health events and briefings with elected officials, business groups, local agencies, and community organizations throughout southern California. This includes overseeing all planning and implementation logistics. * Serves as a leader on working groups and committees to lead and manage program/event logistics for local community chamber groups, county and city departments, and other nonprofits near and around Memorialcare Health System locations (including hospitals, medical group locations, ambulatory surgical centers, etc). * Develops, leads, and implements strategies in alignment with media and marketing team priorities to assist in raising Memorialcare Health System brand within in the counties of Los Angeles and Orange. Including developing and leading community engagement events in new clinical and pediatric sites. * Leads and develops strategic community partnership and engagement programs to enhance and support Memorialcare Health System advocacy efforts at the federal, state and local level. This can include leading health summits, briefings, and educational roundtable events. * Develop and maintains regular contact with staff members at the local agencies or entities. * Designs, populates and updates spreads sheets for the purposes of tracking state, county and city council legislative bills, regulations and policies. * Organizes and leads comprehensive and informative tours and/or presentations for community groups, public officials, and other elected officials at MHS locations. * Develops and maintains appropriate databases, such as, an inventory of established key contacts, legislative contacts and association memberships for Memorialcare Health system. Leads in the implementation of the database, responsible for updating and maintaining elected officials (local, state and federal) and community profiles. * Leads in the implementation of a coordinated strategic plan designed to increase MHS visibility within counties and cities. Coordinate with Memorialcare Health System Hospital staff on community outreach, community benefit, and marketing. * Draft briefing memos, letters, speaking points, articles and other items at the request of the VP advocacy and government relations. * Leads in the establishment metrics to measure effectiveness of community outreach efforts, to insure building trust in MHS catchment areas.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Experience
* Five years or more years of progressive responsibility in the area of community and government relations. * Community experience in conflict resolution, neighborhood organizing, and multi-party negotiations. * Experience working with staff of elected officials and governmental bodies. This include providing public presentations and briefing staff/elected officials/agency leadership. * Planning and implementing all event logistics for educational briefings, tours, roundtables meetings, and conferences/forums/summits. * Understand the California state and county legislative process. * Experience serving on business, community and nonprofit committees. * Leading programs or project without much direction. * Five years of event planning experience as a project manager coordinating all logistics from programmatic logistics to developing budgets. * Experience working for a California elected official and or a nonprofit organization preferred
* High level of proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Power point * Ability to multi task on a variety of projects. * Use charts, timelines, and spreadsheets for planning events or projects. * Strong writing and communication skills.
* Bachelor’s degree in public health, political science, communications, public administration or other related field. * Masters a degree a plus.
